Dry Skin Care
Tips for Eliminating Dry Skin
Many people even after constant moisturizing end up with dry patches and have a dry skin type.
Dryness leads to cracking up of the epidermis or the top layer of the skin leading to a white flaky look.
The major cause of dryness is cold and dry climate, winds, over exfoliation, hormonal changes and medication for other skin diseases.
How do you care for dry skin?
Moisturizing is the best way to combat dryness and there are different types of moisturizers available that cater to dry skin types.
Differentiating between the products available is that there are two broad categories of moisturizers.
The first type is those products that seal in moisture content already present in the skin.
Vaseline is the perfect example of such dry skin care product.
Vaseline is inexpensive and an effective moisturizer.
The other category of moisturizers is those which provide the moisture to the skin on application.
Glycerine, propylene glycol based moisturizers all in this category, reducing dryness and providing hydration to the skin.
Non greasy moisturizers and lotions work best to eliminate dryness, instead of applying oily creams in humid weathers.
Dry skin care is all about keeping dryness at bay.
You don’t even have to make a hole in your pocket by buying expensive creams and lotions but very simple effective herbal based products and many home remedies can help you.
Detergent based soaps or even the common soaps that you use contain higher levels of chemical compounds that reduce moisture content.
Instead you can use face wash or alkaline soaps which have less chemicals and herbal cleansing agents.
The best way to check the chemical content or harshness of your soap is to do a litmus test.
If the litmus strip turns red you know it has high chemical compounds that can damage your skin while a blue result on the strip shows that it is completely safe on your skin.
Exfoliate your body once a week so that you have smooth and clear skin which is able to absorb moisture better.
But it is advisable not to scrub too hard as the skin cells can get damaged.
Over exposure to sun may also lead to dryness, thus using a moisturized UV protection sun screen lotion can defiantly help.
Using products that do not contain synthetic aromas and chemicals are the best for curing dryness.
Lipid enhancement in the skin enables moisture retention for smoother, softer skin.
Always use warm water as it never saps the moisture but gently opens the pores, retaining the moisture.
