Dry Skin Care

Managing Dry Skin Effectively

Everyone looks good with a flawless skin, with a healthy nourished look. Cosmetics and expensive beauty care products cannot cover up unhealthy skin so, maintaining a good skin care regimen becomes important.

If the skin is dull and dry, you can notice the signs of aging faster. It is mainly due to lack of moisture in the skin. During extreme heat and cold, the skin loses moisture making it look dry and dull.

Application of chemical based cosmetics can damage your skin, so it is best to use some effective homemade remedies and natural skin care remedies. Some interesting and easy skin care tips are: Clean your face using an organic cleanser, which can be bought at a drug store or you can even use yogurt or buttermilk. They are delicate cleansers with natural microbes. After cleaning, apply a thin layer of moisturizing lotion, which can keep your skin soft and supple, even in the coldest weather.

It is best to use intense moisturizing creams to nourish your skin during winters. Exposure to wind, cold or heat, robs the skin of moisture, which needs to be replenished fast to maintain a healthy glow. When regular moisturizing is not provided, skin becomes dry, breaks into dry patches and becomes rough. It is best to maintain proper pH balance to keep the skin healthy and glowing.

Artificially fragrant soaps and products should not be used as they tend to irritate the skin and clogs up the pores, sometimes leading to acne. Dry skin is more prone to infections and tends to look wrinkled earlier than oily skin textures.

For dry skin, use warm water to replenish the moisture content, a natural cleanser and Aloe Vera, primrose or Chamomile enhanced creams, which have higher oil content. Pure oils like almond, avocado, coconut, olive have molecules of moisture that get absorbed instantly on application, making the dry skin look smooth and healthy.

You actually do not need exorbitantly expensive creams and lotions but can have a flawless skin using herbal products.

In case, you have oily skin, use lemon based astringent to control the oil content. Mix a few drops of lemon to rose water and wash your face with it. Pat it dry and then apply a cream or face pack made of Fullers earth, rose water and milk.
Let it dry and wash off with warm water.

You will be amazed to see that your face has no oily, sticky feeling anymore. Regular application will lessen acne.

Dry Skin – Reasons and Remedies

Healthy normal skin is soft and pliable in texture.  When skin is healthy, there is anywhere from 10% to 35% of water in the top layer of your skin. To keep the outer layer of skin from loosing the water it needs for proper moister, the skin has glands called Sebaceous glands and they are there to produce the oily substance called Sebum. Made up of fatty acids, sugars, waxes and other natural chemicals, Sebum is a complex mixture of skin protection.  Without the proper level of Sebum, the skin will show evaporation loss, causing the outer skin to be dry, scaly and even shrivel or crack, depending on the amount of water loss.

The technical term for dry skin is Xerosis, and it is a common problem affecting all ages and skin tones, to at one time or another get dry skin. Even infants are prone to dry skin.  But with the elderly there is a naturally decreased production of Sebum Gland which can be the direct cause of their dry skin issues. Aging is also related to a loss of bloodstream flow going to the skin its skin.  There are several factors as to why our skin Sebum levels become unbalanced causing dryness of the skin.

Sometimes it is caused by being in water too often. Whether it being our hands  or our whole body, a job calling for excessive hand washing or bathing a lot, there usually is a result of dry skin with washing products and water combined with drying out of Sebum quicker than the production process will allow for.  Health issues too like Diabetes or skin allergies and on occasion dry skin will be a sign of other health issues like hypothyroidism or kidney problems.  Medication side effects are many times known to include causing dry skin.  Excessive heat, cold, wind, sun, and forced air systems of most any kind are good culprits in causing dry skin when in these situations too often, and no outer skin protections in use.

In most cases of dry skin problems, we can resolve the problem fairly quickly without having to see a dermatologist.  First, you must think carefully to determine why your skin has become dry to begin with. Is it your living environment or how water or products are involved?  If you have dry skin because of these factors, a humidifier for the air environment, changing the products you use and good moisturizers added into your routine should resolve this type of dry skin. Sunscreens and wind blockers of extra moisturizers are important too when outdoors. If after taking all the extra efforts correcting your dry skin issue appropriately and it persists, then a doctor is necessary for a closer look for the right remedy.

Some home beauty tips are very effective when you have dry skin. Mash up a banana and add some honey and little milk to make a paste. You can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil like sandal, rose or lavender to get the perfect fragrance. Apply this rejuvenating face mask and leave it on for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Wash it off with warm water and apply pure almond oil or avocado oil as moisturizer. The best way to clean your dry/damaged skin is to use a mild soap and use extra moisturizers like pure oils for maximum benefits. Avoid any alcohol based skin care product as it tends to dry out the skin. Alkaline soaps and skin care lotions should be used.
